About This Boat

Get ready for that fish of a lifetime!

Join me, Capt. Oliver King to fish the calm waters off the coast of Madeira. Fishing here does not involve long runs to the grounds or early "before dawn" starts, our fish can be found just minutes from our base in Funchal Marina.

Big Blue Marlin, world record size Big Eye Tunas and Wahoo all lurk within striking distance of the shore. The volcanic topography of Madeira means that the sea reaches a depth of 3000ft just a few miles from the coast.

Margarita is a 35 foot Henriques "Maine Coaster", powered by twin 200hp Volvo Penta engines. She is kitted out with a full range of electronics and safety equiptment, along with a full selection of rods and reels for all types of bluewater trolling. We can, at your request, offer light tackle stand up fishing for Marlin and Tunas.

Blue Marlin Fishing

Each year from mid-May, some of the largest Blue Marlin in the East Atlantic start to arrive off the south coast of Madeira.

With an average size of around 650lb and one in ten being a Grander, it's little wonder that this small island in the mid-Atlantic has been the centre of attention for big game anglers for nearly 2 decades.

Fishing for Blue Marlin in Madeira doesn't involve early starts and long runs to the fishing grounds. These giant fish are found just 10 minutes out of Funchal marina where the boat is docked.

A typical day's Blue Marlin fishing will see the boat leave the marina at 10.00hr and fish for a full day, returning to port at 17.00hr. During the day you will be provided with lunch and complimentary water, soft drinks and beer. All you need to bring is a hat and suncream!

For Blue Marlin fishing we use 4 x Penn International rod and reel combos, all loaded with pre tested IGFA rated line. Lures are from a selection from Marlin Magic / Gary Eoff, Joe Yee, Legend, Black Bart, Moldcraft to name but a few.

Tuna Fishing

Right from the start of the year, Tunas visit our waters, often in vast numbers. In our 2011 season, during the first week on January, 2 of our anglers fishing for 3 days caught 17 Skipjack, 1 Albacore and 1 big eye Tuna. Not bad going for what many call the "off season"! March that year produced some incredible numbers of Albacore Tuna with our catch reports reading something like this, "3 for 4 Albacore, 17 for 23 Albacore, 17 Albacore and a Skipjack, 38 Albacore and a 15kg Dorado". While the fishing is not always up to red letter day standards you can be rest assured that we will always do our best to try and find the fish.

During the month of April the Big Eye Tunas start to show in numbers. Traditional known locally as the "Easter Tuna Run", these fish can often exceed 70kg in weight and as spring moves to summer it is not uncommon for fish over 150kg to be caught.

Wahoo Fishing

As summer draws to an end and the blues leave us for another year all is not lost - it's WAHOO time!

Any light tackle angler take note, Madeira offers some of the best light tackle Wahoo fishing in the East Atlantic. Fish over 25 and even 30kg are not uncommon and it would be fair to say that most fish are between 20 and 25kg.

We are the only boat based in Funchal Marina that targets these fish using exclusively on light tackle. Why fish for them with 50, 80 or even 130lb class outfits when you can target them with light tackle with an operation that knows how! On board you will find the following combos for Wahoo fishing in Madeira.

4 x 30lb Shimano tld25 on 30lb trolling rods
4 x 20lb Shimano tld20 on 20lb trolling rods
2 x 16lb Shimano tld15 on 12/16lb trolling rods
A large selection of Halco lures.

All of our reels are loaded with IGFA pre tested line from the following, Shimano, Ande and Suffix.
 Light tackle,  Trolling
